I run a wider tire than factory but only because I had better options. It also is only 10mm wider.

I do try to run tires that are at least a little wider than the rims ever since my 2006 Mazda3 got fairly curb-rashed early on. That a s well as being careful —  I’ve had almost no curb rash since then.

I do this on my Honda Fit, stock tires are 185s which have zero performance (or even just nice) options available. Going up to 195, the widest that’ll fit on the 16x5.5" rims, has transformed the car.

It baffles me that the factory tire options on lots of cars are too narrow to prevent curb rash on the stock wheels. More tire is almost always better, rim widths held equal.

The racecar is currently on 225/50/15's, on a 15X7 wheel. Class rules limit me to no more than a 7" wide wheel. Over the years, I’ve run both 205/50/15 and 225/50/15 on it. There are advantages and disadvantages to both sizes, and it makes a surprisingly big di fference in how the car feels (especially on turn-in). In terms of lap time and race results, I think it ends up being roughly a wash. Toyo now makes the RR in a 225/45/15, which will probably be the next tires I run on it. I think the 225 section width without the added overall diameter and gearing loss I normally give up with a 225/50 maybe the optimal size to run on the car.

With Schmidt’s Radinox wheels you don’t have so accurate. The center of the wheel is still aluminum but the outer ( and sometimes inner too) lips are made from Radinox. It’s special stainless steel alloy that has some fibr e additives. You can get Radinox lips also for BBS and other common “bolt toget her wheels” as they aren’t solely limited to Schmidt.

My fronts look good, but you've made me realize that I need to go with 265/40-17 it 265/35-17 next time in the rear

How wide are your back wheels? Fitment looks great in your picture, I agree a little more sidewall would be even better.

17x9 +35. Fenders are rolled, but could use a bit more rolling
